https://www.thenews.com.pk/assets/uploads/akhbar/2017-04-29/l_201473_051405_print.jpg KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the allegation of blocking 500,000 Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) pertaining to the people of Karachi was incorrect as the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) had blocked 350,000 CNICs in the entire country out of which 172,000 CNICs were later cancelled.
The interior minister said that an investigation was being conducted in suspected cases of around 150,000 (CNICs) and decision on these national identity cards would be taken in the next two to three months after completion of investigation.
The interior minister stated this here on Friday while talking to newsmen after inaugurating the “Mega Centre” of Nadra in the DHA area of Karachi. The mega centre will remain functional on 24 hours basis and it would cater to the needs of 1,600 applicants on simultaneous basis. A total of 23 public dealing counters will be made functional at the mega centre.
He said that Karachi was considered as a Mini Pakistan and its residents should be given due facilities for issuance of CNICs. He said that there should be ** bar on the people of Karachi in getting CNICs issued from a Nadra centre situated in an area different to their native area of residence.
The interior minister said that in the present day alone, he had inaugurated two mega centres of Nadra in Karachi; one was situated in the DHA while the other was located in **rth Nazimabad. The third such centre would be launched next month in the SITE area of Karachi that would be capable of handling services pertaining to issuance of 3,000 CNICs at a time. This would be the biggest mega centre of Nadra in Karachi. He said that an expenditure of Rs370 million had been incurred on establishing these three mega centres in Karachi.
He said that mega centres were being established to provide “One window operation” pertaining to processing and issuance of CNICs to applicants. He said that a network of such mega centres would be extended to other parts of the country in a gradual manner.
Chaudhry Nisar said that the Nadra staff should resolve the issues of applicant citizens on preferential basis and issuance of CNICs in accordance with law should be done in the minimum possible time. He said that issues related to Nadra could **t be resolved merely with the construction of better buildings. He said that complaint desks would be established at mega centres and other ******s of Nadra while prizes would be given to the Nadra staff for showing good performance. He said that any Nadra personnel found involved in insulting any citizen or causing undue misery to any applicant would be dismissed from service.
The interior minister said that a probe had been conducted against 600 employees of Nadra during the era of the present federal government for bogus issuance of CNICs and several such staffers had been dismissed from service.
