ISLAMABAD: Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal on Wednesday called on National Security Adviser (NSA) to Prime Minister Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua and discussed the future prospects of Pak-Afghan relations, matters concerning regional security and stability.
The Afghan ambassador said that together Pakistan and Afghanistan have a great future. “We can be a gateway to South Asia,” he maintained. He also stressed the need to enhance cooperation and to expedite efforts to mitigate the mistrust and hostility between the two countries.
Gen (retd) Janjua assured that Pakistan envisages cordial and brotherly bilateral relations with Afghanistan based on mutual trust and cooperation. He reiterated that Pakistan believes in a shared vision of brighter future with Afghanistan. “We need to put our act together to carve a great future,” he urged. Both sides agreed to enhance the level of mutual engagements and interaction according to the framework agreed in London recently.
Later, a delegation of Afghan journalists also met NSA Lt. General (retd) Nasser Janjua. Both sides exchanged views on matters pertaining to promote bilateral ties and to end hostility and mistrust.
Lt. Gen (retd) Janjua warmly welcomed the delegation and offered the delegates an opportunity to have an open, candid and frank discussion so that misunderstandings and misgivings could be mitigated. “We are the strength of each other,” he reiterated. The delegation sought his opinion on many issues affecting the relationship of both the countries like refugees, border closure and its management, smuggling, Durand Line, rise of Daesh in Afghanistan, reconciliation with Taliban, CPEC and relationship with India.
The NSA responded to every question very elaborately, covering various angles and implications of each issue on behalf of both the countries. He explained them at length, the ways and means to get over with the conflict for the sake of peace and stability in the region. He shared with them the vision of a joint future and the prosperity which awaits both the countries through becoming together.
He also said that it is high time for the people of Afghanistan to rise and say "** to War". The people of Afghanistan should unite and exert pressure on the warring sides to reconcile with each other for the sake of peace. He asked the members of delegation to carry a message of love and hope for the people of Afghanistan from Pakistan. “We love you and your children. We value you as our brothers. Pakistan has **thing else for Afghanistan but love and respect. Let’s get together," he maintained.
He also stressed the need for both countries to work together at all levels i.e political, diplomatic, military, intelligence and people to people to defeat the common enemy and to establish a joint framework to address each other’s concerns. The delegation expressed their satisfaction and gratitude and promised to convey this message of love from people of Pakistan to people of Afghanistan.
