2011 FC Training Centre suicide attacks

HANGU: The heirs of the victims of twin suicide blasts at the entrance to the Frontier Constabulary (FC) training centre in Shabqadar town of Charsadda district, on Tuesday demanded the provision of shaheed package to the remaining victim families.

Over 80 people including 73 FC recruits had been killed and more than 100 others sustained injuries when two suicide bombers targetted vehicles carrying freshly passed out recruits. Speaking at a press conference here, Gulzar Shah, Zahir Shah, Musafir Khan and others said the attacks took place on May 13, 2011.

They said the federal government had an**unced ‘shaheed package’ for the victim families. They said that families of only eight victims were given the promised package while 17 other such families were handed over only Rs650,000 each. They said that the remaining victim families were **t given a single penny despite passage of more than five years.

The heirs to the victims said the victim’s families had then submitted a petition in the Peshawar High Court for provision of the shaheed package and the court had also decided the matter in their favour.

They said they had provided a copy of the court verdict to the Commandant of Frontier Constabulary. “But the FC official in his reply had showed inability to pay the incentives citing lack of funds. They told us to go to the prime minister’s or President House for the provision of the pledged compensation,” claimed Gulzar Shah. The victim’s families asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to look into the matter and provide them relief.
