PESHAWAR: Gover**r Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said the local government elections in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) would be conducted next year. He said majority of the tribesmen had wished to merge the tribal region into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Talking to a member of the executive body of Engineering Council, Azhar Habib Durrani, at the Gover**r’s House in Peshawar on Monday, the gover**r said: “Out of 450,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), only 100,000 were yet to return to native towns in Fata.
The return process will be completed by the end of the current year.”Iqbal Zafar Jhagra maintained most of the problems of tribesmen had been resolved and militancy eliminated with the efforts of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Army.
He added that the Frontier Crimes Regulation would soon be abolished after the implementation of the reforms suggested by the Fata Reforms Committee.The gover**r said that tribesmen had rendered great sacrifices for the peace of the entire region and **w the time had come to take potential measures to resolve their problems and work for their welfare.
Every returning family was being paid Rs400,000 for the reconstruction of completely damaged houses and Rs100,000 for partially-damaged houses, said the gover**r.Food and day-to-day expenses of the IDPs were also be borne by the government, he added.
