CNN said Hillary won the debate. Why do so many polls seem to say otherwise?

On Monday night, nearly all major news networks (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/09/27/online-polls-declare-trump-debate-winner-despite-media-consensus-for-clinton.html) (including the conservative ones (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/09/27/hillary-won-first-debate-it-helps-to-be-prepared.html)) seemed to agree: Hillary Clinton had won the first presidential debate.

But throughout the night and well into Tuesday morning, people on Twitter shared dozens of debate polls (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CtW84diUEAANmQM.jpg) that seemingly concluded that Trump had won the debateCNN must have been biased (https://twitter.com/juicesaysthis/status/780787351383449604) against Trump. Pundits were elitists (https://twitter.com/DenaldJTrumpJr/status/780763421310451713). The media conspiracy (https://twitter.com/jackiecarbajal/status/780756053482885120) against Trump, in their minds, had never been more clear.*

The science for their case, however, was far murkier.*

Take a look for example, at the polls shared *by conservative news aggregation site, The Drudge Report (http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/09/shock-post-debate-poll-hillary-clinton-takes-4th-place-abc-news-poll-behind-jill-stein-gary-johnson/). At the top of their list was a seemingly scientific post-debate poll claiming to come from ABC News (http://abcnewsgo.co/2016/09/abc-live-poll-who-are-you-voting-for/). According to ABC News, Drudge claimed, 54% of respondents would **w be voting for Trump, followed by 21% for Jill Stein, 15% for Gary Johnson, and just 10% for Hillary Clinton, despite the fact that Stein and Johnson didn't even compete in the debate.
