Well, the Staten Island Ferry Disaster occurred on **v. 22, 1963, it killed 400 people, and oh yeah – it's all fake.
According to the NY Post (http://nypost.com/2016/09/25/artist-fools-tourists-with-monument-to-giant-octopus-attack-on-staten-island-ferry/), artist Joe Reginella is responsible for an elaborate prank, claiming there is a museum on Staten Island in memory of a disaster, in which a massive octopus devoured a Staten Island Ferry.
