Islamabad: National Highway Authority (NHA) has initiated a study on setting up more emergency response centres on suitable locations of the national highways and motorways.

The study is expected to conclude in a couple of months period says an official of NHA.He said that presently seven first aid centres are functional on National Highways and Motorways Network.

He said that seven first aid centres are located at Rashakai at Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1) Service Area, Chakri Service Area, Sukheki Service Area, Sial Morr Service area, Bhera Service Area, Kallar Kahar on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2) and **oriabad at Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway.He said that the NHA has taken various steps to minimise the accidents ratio on the national highways and motorways.

He said that awareness is being created among the commuters through installation of sign boards and enforcement of speed limit restriction is being done in an effective manner by Motorway Police.

Moreover, National Highways and Motorway Police does patrolling on the motorways and highways and fines were being imposed for traffic rules violations.He said that speed breakers and cat eyes have been installed at crucial locations and monitoring of heavy weight vehicles through Axle Load Control Programme is being done.Moreover he said that the NHA has been taking steps for timely repair and maintenance of roads and it has been ensuring the Enforcement of Highway Safety Programme.
