DUBAI: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and decided to field against the West Indies in the first of the three One-day Internationals here on Friday.
Sarfraz said after winning the toss, "Dew will be a factor because of humidity, so we want to chase," he says. "We're excited. The morale within the group is high. Our white-ball cricket is getting better, we've been playing T20 cricket back home."
The West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite said, "We want to be the best T20 team in the world, we want to form a legacy. Every game we play should take us closer to that dream. Any T20 team will miss Gayle and Russell, but we have the young and exciting Nicholas Pooran who will make his debut today. The youngsters have an opportunity to cement their place and show what they've got."
Pakistan rested Mohammad Amir from the side which beat England in the only Twenty20 in Manchester earlier this month, after the fast bowler joined the team late because of his wedding on Tuesday.
Amir´s place went to left-arm spinning all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz.
Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal also made a comeback after being overlooked for the England tour. He replaced Mohammad Rizwan from the Machester side.
West Indies gave a Twenty20 debut to wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran.
The second T20 International will also be played in Dubai on Saturday while the third is in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
