ISLAMABAD: Four former bureaucrats/experts are recently found criticising what they themselves have been doing and defending in the past. They also subtly endorsed the charges of India, US and others against Pakistan.

Reading an analysis- jointly authored by them, it appears that these key officials of the past are more influenced by foreign voices than Pakistan’s concerns and its stated position.

They reflected on Washington, India and Kabul’s blames against Pakistan and also what others expect from Pakistan but did **t reflect on how Islamabad is being targeted, destabilised and weakened by the same set of countries.

Most importantly while Pakistan is advised to review its policy on Afghanistan and Kashmir, **t even a single word is uttered about China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor. The launch of CPEC is believed to have really upset many foreign states most importantly US and India and the recent closeness of India, Kabul and Iran against Pakistan is believed to have Washington’s backing to fail CPEC.

These experts admitted, “Pakistan is facing an exceptionally dangerous challenge with aggressive rhetoric and threats from India and Afghanistan and hostile narratives gaining resonance in Washington.”

In this trying situation, they suggested that Pakistan can rely on diplomatic support from China and friends in the Islamic world but much depends on our own defence preparedness and our diplomacy. We need to devise a policy response that helps reduce the threat without giving the Kashmiris a feeling of a let-down, they said.

They advised that Pakistan must reaffirm that we will do all we can to prevent use of our territory for militant activities inside Afghanistan and take visible measures for this purpose, and added, “We can**t justify differentiated emphasis for Operation Zarb-e-Azb which attracts the accusation that we distinguish between ‘good and bad” Taliban.’”

Interestingly Pakistan at all levels has assured both Washington and Kabul what these experts suggest and there is a declared policy that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb does **t distinguish between “good and bad” Taliban. One expects from such experts to explain what makes them believe what others accuse Pakistan of.

While focusing on Washington and Kabul’s accusation against Pakistan, these experts simply ig**red how Afghan soil is being used for destabilisation and terrorist activities in Pakistan. ** suggestion has been made as to what should Pakistan do to make Washington listen to how New Delhi is using Kabul to hurt Islamabad.

Ig**ring what they have been doing themselves in the past, they said, “We must reflect why is it that Pakistan has ended up always siding with the most regressive elements in Afghanistan, some of whom we falsely regarded as assets, why most educated Afghans have become alienated from us and why we allowed our policy to fall in the insidious Afghan ethnic divide.”

On the issue of Kashmir, they voiced India’s concern by saying, “Of late, the delay in prosecuting especially those implicated in the Mumbai terrorist incident has been misconstrued as weak Pakistani commitment to fighting terrorism, the nemesis of all modern societies. This undermines Pakistan’s ability to forcefully advocate the Kashmir cause.”

In the analysis there is ** mention of either Pakistan’s stance on Mumbai attack or the fact that how the independent courts of Pakistan dealt with these cases and what evidence is required to prosecute those implicated by India.

These experts did refer to the ongoing Kashmiri struggle against repressive Indian rule, demanding clear and emphatic expression of solidarity. They said that the uprising in Kashmir is **t Pakistan instigated as India claims but still wrote, “**thing will help India more than an evidence of outside militant elements blending with the indige**us Kashmiri uprising to justify its extreme violence in India-held Kashmir and its aggressive posture against Pakistan. We should be open to cooperating with any investigation into the Uri attack.”

They did **t suggest how Pakistan could effectively fight the case of Kashmiris but said, “Above all, it is the Kashmiris and the Kashmiri Diaspora, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, who must fully mobilise themselves to agitate world conscience to their suffering and the denial of their fundamental rights. They have a vital role to play.”
