ISLAMABAD: Referring to news items published and aired in different sections of media on September 20, the National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) on Tuesday denied that it was **t cooperating with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights.
A statement issued to media said that the NCHR chairman has great respect for the august National Assembly and its standing committees. He has been appearing in various meetings of the parliamentary committees and has been contributing on important national issues both in writing and verbally.
About the meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee held in Lahore on August 29, the statement mentions that the chairman prepared a comprehensive report on the subject of “Exploitative trade of human organs” and forwarded the report to the Committee through the member of the Commission (Punjab) on August 20, 2016 pursuant to Rule 200(4) of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
A copy of the report was also sent to the chairman of the Standing Committee directly. “This report was a written brief on the subject and fully explained the legal position. The chairman could **t attend the meeting because of a personal family problem and this was conveyed with the request for being excused.”
About the allegation that the chairman NCHR was more interested in making visits abroad and collecting TA/DA, the statement explains that the chairman has **t taken a single rupee as TA/DA. “In fact, he has **t yet received his past arrears of salary and other dues. Such a statement should **t have been made without due verification as it amounts to defaming the chairman on hearsay.”
The statement further says that all functions of the NCHR including appointments are done by the approval of the Commission and in accordance with law.
