Says India threatening regional peace, stability; Turkey, Japan concerned over IHK situation; Ankara to send fact-finding mission; Saudi crown prince briefed on Indian atrocities
UNITED NATIONS: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday raised the issue of state atrocities in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IHK) during his meetings with the world leaders and said the entire valley had been reduced to a jail by the occupation forces.
He held significant meetings with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Saudi Crown Price and Deputy Prime Minister Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly’s 71st Summit session at the headquarters of the world body here.
Turkey and Japan expressed serious concern over the grim situation in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).Apart from other subjects, Nawaz discussed with the three leaders serious developments in the occupied Kashmir where the Indian forces are brutalising the in**cent people.
He also reminded them about the belligerent disposition of India in the wake of developments. The two leaders regretted the situation.Nawaz conveyed his sense of relief and strong sentiment of support on behalf of Pakistani people to President Erdogan on his successful handling of the coup.
Nawaz was among the first world leaders to call the Turkish president and express Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the democratically-elected government and the people of Turkey while the coup was being thwarted.
The two sides exchanged views on the regional situation in South Asia as well as the Middle East, particularly in Indian Occupied Kashmir, Syria and Iraq.
Nawaz reminded Pakistan’s strong support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have been facing atrocities at the hands of Indian occupation forces for decades.
The prime minister shared the latest situation in Kashmir, especially the uprising that has unfolded in recent months as a result of barbaric Indian acts of violence against in**cent Kashmiris and gross human rights abuses at the state level.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is also Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) assured that Turkey would send a fact-finding mission to the IHK in the capacity of the Chair of Human Rights Commission of the OIC Contact Group.
Nawaz thanked the president for his support. The Turkish president said: “We are friends forever; Turkey and Pakistan are inseparable,”
He conveyed condolences to the Turkish president on the recent terrorist incidents in various cities across Turkey leading to the loss of precious human lives.
Nawaz expressed the hope that the brave Turkish brethren will be able to overcome these challenges soon. Erdogan said Turkey and Pakistan had always been and will continue to remain strong and steadfast partners in bringing peace and progress in their respective regions as well as in the Muslim world.
The prime minister hailed the positive contribution of Turkish companies that had invested in infrastructure and services sector in Pakistan. He invited Turkish firms to enhance their investments in Pakistan.
Highlighting the significance of Pakistan-Turkey Free Trade Agreement, the prime minister stressed upon the need for finalising it at the earliest so that both countries could maximize their trade potential.
Nawaz thanked the Turkish president for playing a constructive role in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). He shared details of Pakistan’s strong credentials in **n-proliferation as well as nuclear safety and security which make it an ideal candidate for NSG membership.

The two leaders last met on the margins of the 68th UN General Assembly session in September 2013 when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assumed the ****** three months earlier.

The Japanese premier extended his support to Pakistan's counterterrorism efforts, eco**mic reforms and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz’s endeavours for reaching out to neighboring countries for the sake of regional peace, stability and prosperity of the people.
Shinzo Abe strongly condemned recent terrorist incidents in Quetta and other cities and extended his condolences on the loss of precious lives during the terrorist attacks. The two sides expressed concern over the recent developments in the Korean Peninsula.
Pakistan strongly condemns the recent nuclear tests conducted by **rth Korea and urges it to abide by its international treaty obligations, the Prime Minister said. Regional situation, particularly in India and Afghanistan also came under discussion.
The prime minister raised the plight of in**cent Kashmiri people at the hands of barbaric Indian occupation forces.
“Japan is a major country; I request you to exercise your valuable influence and urge India for ending human rights violations in the Indian Held Kashmir.
The Kashmiri people must be allowed to choose their destiny in accordance with the long held commitment of the international community through UNSC resolutions.
The Japanese prime minister also expressed his deep concern over the present situation in the Indian Held Kashmir.
On Afghanistan, the prime minister apprised the Japanese premiere of Pakistan's efforts for peace and reconciliation and reiterated Pakistan’s desire for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
Japanese prime minister said the current bilateral ties between the two countries need to be deepened.
Nawaz said Pakistan had huge potential for investment in diverse fields.
“Japan can bring the capacity to produce value added goods and also benefit while investing in diverse fields in Pakistan. It is one of Pakistan’s largest trading partners with annual bilateral trade of US$ 1.86 billion. This trade needs to be enhanced further,” the prime minister said.
Pakistan’s successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb, military campaign against terrorists as well as implementation of the National Action Plan to eliminate terrorism and violent extremism has restored peace in the country.
The eco**my is boosting and we are achieving energy self sufficiency,” the prime minister said. All these achievements have reinforced the confidence of foreign investors and made Pakistan an ideal destination for investment, the prime minister stated.
The meeting between the two prime ministers took place at the request of Japanese prime minister. Interestingly, Japan and China are having tense ties.
The prime minister was assisted by adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, Pakistan’s permanent representative (PR) for the United Nations Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and other senior officials.

He shared details with the crown prince of Operation Zarb-e-Azb as well as the National Action Plan.
