ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would pay a short visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today (Friday). He will discuss with the Kashmiri leadership increasing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and evolve a comprehensive strategy to raise this issue at the international level during his upcoming visit to the United Nations, sources told The News here on Thursday.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would hold meeting with AJK President Masood Khan, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and members of the AJK Cabinet to discuss ongoing situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir and prepare a plan to highlight this issue at the international level,” the sources said.
The sources said the prime minister would take input from the AJK leadership and also take it into confidence before his official visit to the United Nations. They said the recent wave of unrest in Indian-occupied Kashmir and violations of human rights in the held territory are also likely to be raised at the UN General Assembly meeting.
The sources said the prime minister would also review various proposals for the upcoming development projects and progress on ongoing projects, adding, “The prime minister has a plan to launch various mega projects in AJK to improve basic infrastructure especially in remote areas of the region.”
