MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday arrived in Muzaffarabad where he will meet leaders of Kashmiri leadership to discuss increasing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and evolve a comprehensive strategy to raise this issue at the international level during his upcoming visit to the United Nations.
President Azad Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan and Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider received PM Nawaz Sharif on his arrival.
The Premier is accompanied by Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for
Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Dr Asif Kirmani.
The meeting of the PM with Kashmiri leaders is being held before his upcoming visit to New York where he will raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at the forum of United Nations’ General Assembly.
The sources said the prime minister would take input from the AJK leadership and also take it into confidence before his official visit to the United Nations. They said the recent wave of unrest in Indian-occupied Kashmir and violations of human rights in the held territory are also likely to be raised at the UN General Assembly meeting.
The sources said the prime minister would also review various proposals for the upcoming development projects and progress on ongoing projects, adding, “The prime minister has a plan to launch various mega projects in AJK to improve basic infrastructure especially in remote areas of the region.”
