Actor Chris Pine, 36, is having the time of his life. The Star Trek actor was recently named GQ’s International Man of the Year and it looks like that’s just the beginning. In between starring in prolific projects like Star Trek and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Pine has also managed to find time to star in quality projects. A case in point is David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water in which he co-stars alongside actors Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges and one that has earned him rave reviews.
Pine, who stars in the rebooted Star Trek films as Captain Kirk, also defended the decision to show the character of Sulu, played by John Cho in the films, as gay, a decision that was **t appreciated by original Trekkie member George Takei.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Pine explained why this move was necessary. “My only rebuttal to George Takei — ** matter what kind of creative differences he had about Sulu being gay, and I can understand his creative differences — is the fact that our job is to make people feel less alone,” Pine told THR. “ If there’s one kid in Middle America who feels any amount of self-loathing because he feels different, or is being bullied because he feels different or looks different or sounds different, if our film can give him solace and make him or her feel less alone, then abso-effin-loutely we should do it all the time, every day of the week.”
