Says allegations against him are fabricated; NA speaker says he applied his mind while sending references to ECP; asks Tareen to move court if he has objections; says he left seat on Imran’s arrival to avoid unpleasant situation
ISLAMABAD: PTI MNA Jahangir Tareen on Friday said allegations against him are fabricated and the sugar mill attributed to him is actually owned by Haroon Akhtar.
Jehangir Tareen rose on a point to clarify his position about sending of reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), saying that the SECP has **t issued any show-cause **tice to him.
He blamed the incumbent government for using the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) against political opponents. He said he has been among the top taxpayers of the country but he was being blamed of committing wrongdoings. Tareen said he himself and the prime minister were doing similar businesses and that was why he was being victimised. He said Rahimyar Khan has become sugar milling industry because of his efforts. “I have taken a stay order from court against Chaudhry Sugar Mills owned by the prime minister, but it was violated by the prime minister,” he alleged.
He said he would continue to stand with Imran Khan despite the fact that a reference against him had also been sent to the Election Commission.Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq said he applied his mind as per rules while sending the references to the Election Commission, asking the PTI member that he also had the option to move the court and said the ECP was to take decision in 90 days.
He said he left his seat on Imran Khan’s arrival to avoid any unpleasant situation.Earlier, an interesting situation was witnessed in the National Assembly when the MQM parliamentarians made a couple of failed attempts to convey their concerns to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ending up with a walkout from the House.
The House also saw PTI members walkout on issue of disqualification references sent to the Election Commission. The MQM parliamentarians including Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Kanwar Naveed Jamil reached the seat of the prime minister to seek time for conveying their concerns regarding arrests of their party workers and demolition of MQM ******s in Karachi and talked to him for a few minutes but had to return to their seats as proceedings of the House were in progress.
They were also seen running after the prime minister when he was leaving but could **t approach him. They also reached outside the chamber of the prime minister but could **t meet him.
Khalid Maqbool, attempting to speak on a point of order, strongly raised concerns about the missing members of their party. He questioned why the MQM members were **t being presented before the court, saying that it was victimisation, which should be stopped.
