ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami staged a sit-in protest over the recent hanging of a leader of the JI Bangladesh by the Bangladeshi government for his alleged involvement in 1971 crimes.

JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq said that when MQM supremo Altaf Hussain was chanting anti-Pakistan slogans, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh representatives were being hanged for supporting Pakistan. Siraj also said during his address that the government of Pakistan had advised him to purseu the matter in the International Court of Justice.

"The government itself should have gone to the International Court of Justice and raised the issue of hangings in Bangladesh of Jamaat-e-Islami representatives there," he said.

Siraj-ul-Haq said that his workers received sticks and bullets while Modi received mangoes and dresses.

Mir Quasem Ali, a media tycoon and member of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, was hanged on September 3 by Bangladeshi authorities allegedly for crimes he committed during the 1971 war. He was hanged at the Kashimpur Central Jail on the outskirts of Dhaka.
