Merit Medical (South Jordan, Utah) won FDA clearance for the Elation pulmonary dilation balloon for dilating the*trachea or bronchi. The company focused on having the balloon deflate quickly and completely at the end of the procedure to make it easy to pull out.

It’s fairly transparent, allowing the user to see the anatomy better around the balloon. It has radiopaque markers for precision in placement and printed bands on the catheter to measure stricture length. The device can be reinserted multiple times thanks to a low insertion force required to push it through the scope.
