KARACHI: Two policemen died in a gun attack outside the residence of a doctor in the Defence neighbourhood late on Wednesday night. Police constables Majid and Ishtiaque were guarding the residence of Dr Aziz on Khayaban-e-Shahbaz in Phase VI when an unspecified number of gunmen sprayed them with bullets and escaped. After receiving information about the shooting, police attended the scene and took the injured cops to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where both succumbed to their wounds, said Senior Superintendent of Police Saqib Ismail Memon of District South.
Both victims suffered multiple bullet wounds to their upper torsos. The slain policemen, who were posted in District Central of the Karachi Police, had been deployed outside the residence of the doctor after he had reported receiving life threats, said SSP Memon.
He said Dr Aziz had an enmity with his brothers over a property, over which his younger brother had been killed in the Ferozeabad area a few months ago. The doctor suspected the involvement of his brother, Abdul Wahab, in the attack on his residence. A case has been reported and investigations are underway. Investigation sources said Dr Aziz hailed from Sukkur and had been engaged in a property dispute.
