Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik, Shah, Bhat refuse to talk to Rajnath-led delegation; 400 injured in clashes with security forces

HELD SRINAGAR: Five members of the all-party delegation – Assasuddin Owaisi, Sitaram Yechuri, D Raja, Sharad Yadav and Jaiprakash – tried to meet pro-freedom leaders Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yaseen Malik, Shabir Shah and Prof Ghani Bhat but all the four refused to talk on the Kashmir issue and the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

The Kashmiri leadership has given India the message that they want freedom from the Indian rule. Reports said that Owaisi came to Cheshma Shahi sub jail and called on Mirwaiz. Mirwaiz thanked Owaisi for coming to jail but declined to talk on Kashmir and the continuing unrest.

Hurriyat (M) Spokesman Shahid-ul-Islam has said that the two members of the delegation, including Owaisi, called on Mirwaiz at Cheshma Shahi Sub Jail but Mirwaiz, while shaking hands with Owaisi, told both the MPs that he can’t talk to them either on the Kashmir issue or the present situation in Kashmir.

The other four members of the delegation – Yechuri, Raja, Yadav and Jaiprakash – called Malik at Police Station Humhama but they were denied the opportunity of even a simple interaction on the present unrest in Kashmir. A spokesman of JKLF told local Kashmiri media that the Indian delegation was taken directly to the room in which Yasin Malik was kept.

He said Malik refused to meet and talk to the parliamentarians and told them that they are part of a larger delegation, headed by Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who before coming to Kashmir categorically said that Indian parliamentarians’ delegation will meet and talk to the people under the preview of Indian constitution.

Malik said, “Our stated policy is that we will **t talk to anyone under the Indian constitution and because of this there is ** fun in talking to this delegation.” The delegation left the police station within three or four minutes.

Malik told the delegation members that he won’t like to discuss with them the Kashmir issue as the delegation headed by Rajnath Singh had ** mandate to talk on Kashmir resolution outside the Indian constitution. The delegation is interested in holding talks within the framework of Indian constitution and pro-freedom leadership has already ruled out talks on Kashmir within the Indian constitution.

As soon as the delegation members reached Hyderpora, the residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, they were virtually embarrassed to find the entry doors shut.

The delegation members were greeted with pro freedom slogans by an angry crowd at Geelani’s residence and they returned. Later, the delegation members also called on a**ther pro-freedom leader Shabir Ahmad Shah who, too, refused to talk on the Kashmir issue and conveyed his rejection to Delhi’s offer of dialogue within the Indian constitution.

The delegation members also met Prof Ghani Bhat at his residence and interacted with him for a few minutes. Bhat said, “I thanked the delegation members for visiting me but categorically ruled out the possibility of talking in isolation. I made it clear to them that pro-freedom leaders will talk collectively and as such I can’t talk individually in isolation. I will abide by the collective decision of the joint resistance leadership.”

The situation remained grim and tense on Sunday as it was 57 days ago when on July 9 a Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzzaffar Wani was martyred by the Indian troops.Over 400 people were injured in firing of pellets and bullets by Indian troops on protesters. Women are also included among the injured persons.

Agitated people set the newly-built DC ****** on fire. The personnel of Indian police and paramilitary forces used brute force on participants of a pro-freedom rally in Penjoora village of Shopian.

Forces used heavy tear ***** shells and indiscriminate pellets on protesters, injuring over 100 people, many of them critically. Intense clashes erupted in Vessu village of Qazigund town.

On the other hand, several persons were injured in Islamabad district after Indian armed forces used force on an anti India and pro freedom rally in Fatapora Larkipora. Reports about rallies and forceful anti India protests are coming from other areas as well.

Some 15 persons were injured and many arrested as government forces tried to foil a freedom rally in the Drubgam area of Pulwama district. The forces vandalised the venue of a proposed rally and beat whosoever came in their way.
