Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has issued letters of warning to several institutions for offering medical and dental related additional and postgraduate courses without its mandatory permission.
These letters were written to **n-medical and dental institutions as it was observed that they kept advertising medicine and dentistry-related diplomas and medical sciences courses with other general subjects.
PMDC President Professor Shabbir Lehri told reporters that many institutions recently advertised many postgraduate or medical and dental courses though they’re **t recognised by the PMDC.
He said many of those institutions had mentioned in advertisements that the courses they offered didn’t require any PMDC recognition, which was a misleading tactic for financial benefits.
The PMDC president said long distance courses too were advertised by many institutions that were unacceptable to the PMDC as it didn’t entertain any such programmes and courses.Meanwhile, acting PMDC registrar Dr. Syed Azhar Shah said medical or dental related programmes and courses would be unrecognised until they were registered by the PMDC. He also said ** doctor could even practice that specialisation, which was **t registered with the PMDC and that such illegal act would be a waste of time and money.
The acting registrar said students should apply for only those programmes, which were recognised by the PMDC.He added violators of the PMDC rules would face heavy fine and even imprisonment.
