KARACHI: An activist of the banned Jundullah organization was gunned down by police officials in an alleged encounter in the city's Mauripur area, on Friday.

According to CTD in-charge Mazhar Mashwani, a targeted activity was carried out in Mauripur's Musharraf Colony area after police received reports of the presence of a member of the banned Jundullah group. Police stated that during the operation, an exchange of fire took place between the law enforcers and the militants, which resulted in the suspect, Fazal-Ur-Rahman alias Mufti became critically injured.

The suspect succumbed to his wounds as he was receiving treatment at a hospital. The name of the Amir of the group is Saqib Anjum alias Arif, who is running the militant outfit from Balochistan. Seven members of Fazal-Ur-Rahman's group had been gunned down in Mominabad during a battle with Rangers personnel, in 2015.

The dead suspect was an expert in fitting explosives in motorcycles, making block bombs and suicide vests. He was involved in bomb blasts outside Imambargahs in Qasba Colony and Orangi Town as well as fitting motorcycles with explosives which attacked a SSU police bus in Qaidabad and an army bus in Baldia Town.

Apart from the above-stated nefarious activities, the suspect was also involved in kidnapping-for-ransom and 5 hand grenades, ******* and a motorcycle were recovered from him. He had arrived in Karachi to carry out a**ther terrorist activity.

A targeted operation is underway to arrest the remaining members of his terrorist group.
