ISLAMABAD: President Mam**on Hussain on Monday said that Pakistan enjoys brotherly relations with Bangladesh adding that Pakistan is desirous to have cordial relations with all its neighbouring countries.
Talking to Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to Bangladesh Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president urged the ambassador-designate to go beyond the confines of traditional diplomacy to further strengthen relations with Bangladesh. He further said that the two countries need to move forward and strengthen bilateral relations by promoting parliamentary and people to people contacts.
He underlined the need for increasing bilateral trade with Bangladesh to further cement bilateral relations. He said that it is the responsibility of Pakistani diplomats to encourage foreign investors to invest in Pakistan. He **ted that law and order situation in the country has improved as a result of operation Zarb-e-Azb and actions against terrorist across the country.
He said that in order to complement the efforts of the diplomats, the government has **minated members of parliament to highlight the issue of Indian occupied Kashmir at the international level adding that Pakistan fully supports the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris and condemns the ongoing atrocities being committed by Indian security forces in the Indian-ccupied Kashmir. He hoped that during the tenure of ambassador-designate, the bilateral relations between the two countries would further strengthen.
Later, he reiterated that Pakistan will continue to highlight the issue of Kashmir and atrocities being committed by Indian security forces against in**cent Kashmiris at international level and their just struggle to attain self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Talking to President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Muhammad Masood Khan, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president expressed his satisfaction at the successful holding of recent election in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and smooth transition of power to the next elected government. He hoped that the newly elected President AJ&K will utilise his vast experience and abilities to serve the people besides highlighting the Kashmir issue. He wished the newly elected President AJ&K well in discharge of his new responsibilities.
President Azad Jammu & Kashmir Muhammad Masood Khan apprised President Mam**on Hussain about the overall prevalent situation and thanked him for taking keen interest in the affairs of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. In a**ther meeting, President underlined the need to lay greater emphasis on promoting research culture in the universities to promote creativity and in**vation to take the country forward and achieve eco**mic prosperity.
Talking to Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, President said that the government was committed to promoting higher education in the country. He said that education can**t be complete without character building of the younger generation and asked the HEC chairman to further improve the standard of education across the country. He hoped that the efforts of HEC will generate skillful human resource that will play a crucial role in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
On the occasion, HEC chairman briefed the president about matters relating to HEC and future programmes of his organisation.
