PRETORIA, South Africa: Captain Kane Williamson made a determined 77 but New Zealand were bowled out for 214, leaving them with a deficit of 267 at tea on the third day of the second Test against South Africa at Centurion on Monday.
Williamson was the last wicket to fall as New Zealand lost seven wickets in the first two sessions after starting the day on 38 for three.
His 77 came off 133 balls but apart from an entertaining cameo by tailender Neil Wagner, there were few other positives for the Kiwi batsmen.
Pretoria-born Wagner hit Dale Steyn to all corners of the ground in an aggressive k**ck of 31 off 30 balls before the South African paceman got him out caught behind.
Henry Nicholls was the only other batsmen to get among the runs but was the first wicket to fall before lunch when he was trapped lbw by Kagiso Rabada for 36.Steyn took 3-66, Rabada 3-62 and Ver**n Philander grabbed two wickets.
South Africa did **t enforce the follow-on, deciding to build a bigger lead on a pitch that is displaying variable bounce and will get harder to bat on.
The Test is the second in a two-match ****** which is level after the first game in Durban was abandoned after one and a half day´s play because of a wet outfield.
