MANSEHRA: The prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding in upper parts of Hazara has sparked protests as people staged demonstrations to vent their anger.
The people took to the streets against prolonged loadshedding in Mansehra, Shinkiari and various places in the Torghar district. The angry protesters set tyres on fire in Mohallah Channia, blocking the Mansehra-Abbottabad Road to traffic for over an hour.
The protesters criticised the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) for its failure to supply electricity to consumers during the night and peak hours.“Local lawmakers have been enjoying perks and privileges but they don’t bother to make efforts to address the issues faced by local people,” said a protester Adnan Khan.
He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should quit the government as it had failed to overcome the energy crisis despite being in power for three years. The people in Torghar also held a demonstration, demanding an end to prolonged loadshedding in the district. The protesters gathered in the Dormerra area and chanted slogans against Pesco.
“We want uninterrupted supply of electricity. The government should address this issue,” Yousaf Khan, district general secretary of Awami National Party, said while addressing the protesters. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government had failed to address the issues being faced by the people. “Our Member National Assembly Mohammad Safdar is the son-in-law of the prime minister, but he has failed to deliver. The people are without basic amenities despite the fact that the PML-N is ruling the country,” Yousaf Khan said.He said that if the issue of loadshedding was **t addressed, his party would widen the scope of protests to other parts of the Hazara Division.
