ISLAMABAD: A murder case registered against 11 persons, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and four federal ministers, in connection with the killing of two persons in the Red Zone area on August 30, 2014, during a clash with the participants of a sit-in with the police has been dismissed by a court for lack of evidence, sources said here on Friday.
The case was registered on the orders of District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Jawad Abbas Hassan, on Sept 15, 2014, on an application, filed under Section 22-A by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s Umar Riaz Abbasi. In the FIR, 11 persons, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Khwaja Saad Rafiq, Islamabad chief commissioner and IG police, were **minated.
The complainant alleged that two party workers were killed and hundreds of others were injured in shelling by the police, ordered by the prime minister and others during their march from the D-Chowk to the Prime Minister’s House.
A joint investigation team was formed after the registration of the case. ASP CIA Capt (retd) Muhammad Ilyas was the head of the JIT, and SP City Rizwan Gondal, DSP Secretariat Bashir **on, SHO Secretariat, investigation ******r, and representatives of ISI and Intelligence Bureau were its members.
Two other FIRs lodged by PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the State were also taken into account, and the JIT report was submitted to the court. The JIT recommended dismissing the FIR lodged by PAT’s Umar Riaz Abbasi.
Sources said the JIT report made it clear that the allegations levelled in the FIR by the PAT leader had **t been corroborated by circumstantial evidence. The sources said that the Anti-Terrorist Court, in the light of the JIT report, ordered quashing the FIR **206, registered at the Secretariat Police Station.However, PAT’s counsel Advocate Abrar Raza claimed that the case was still being heard by the court.
