PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has accused the federal government of stealing 600 megawatt electricity from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on a daily basis. Talking to a 30-member delegation of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) here, he said: “We will **t allow anyone to usurp our rights. Our government will go to any extent to secure our rights.” The chief minister said his government would draw the future line of action if the federal government didn’t solve the problem within the next 10 days.
“The federal government is kidding with us, but we will **t tolerate such things,” he threatened. “We k**w how to fight for our rights,” he declared.
He said the federal government was usurping the rights of smaller provinces and the rulers should understand that such policies would undermine the federation.
Enumerating the achievements and reforms introduced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government, the chief minister said it had established good governance and made the rulers and bureaucrats accountable by adopting the Conflict of Interest Bill, Right to Information Bill and Whistleblowers Act. He claimed neither politicians **r the government ******rs could misuse their authority. Pervez Khattak said his government would **t tolerate corrupt elements and this was the reason these laws had been enforced in the larger interest of the people.
He observed that the elites and bureaucrats were creating hurdles in the way of change, but still they had put the institutions on the right track.
The chief minister remarked that he had become disappointed with the current system of governance.
He recalled: “I was a minister in the previous government. I was impressed with Imran Khan’s slogan of change and, therefore, decided to support the PTI chief.”
He opined that all the countries which had good leaders had progressed.
Pervez Khattak said his government had initiated the Swat Expressway project costing Rs40 billion from its own resources.
“It will **t only connect the central districts with the **rthern districts but also promote tourism in the province and generate job opportunities,” he elaborated.
He said the KP government introduced reforms to make the police force professional and accountable and brought to an end political interference in its affairs. “This has improved the police system and contributed to reducing crime rate,” he argued.
The chief minister said his government was **t interfering in the police department, but it didn’t mean that there was ** system of check and balance.
