Asks opposition to stop baseless propaganda
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Friday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had won the UN support for the Kashmir cause and therefore the opposition should stop their baseless propaganda and criticism on the government’s foreign policy.
Welcoming UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s offer to mediate the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, he said it was a historic victory of the present government’s foreign policy and the diplomatic offensive launched by it to rally the support of international community to highlight the issue.
“It is also a testimony to the initiatives and policies of PML (N) government in the sphere of foreign policy that international community and public opinion **w recognizes Pakistan s position on Kashmir.”
Pervaiz, in a statement, said it should put to rest all those who opposed and criticised the government simply for the sake of opposition and misleading and hoodwinking the people.He said Imran Khan and PPP as part of their campaign to malign Nawaz politicised the Kashmir issue and demoralised the people of Jammu and Kashmir who are waging a struggle for their right to self-determination.
Pervaiz said foreign policy was a sensitive affair and irresponsible behaviour and impatience on the part of opposition might cause irreparable damage to the ongoing indige**us struggle of Kashmiris. “The statecraft is a serious business and opposition should show maturity while commenting on matters of foreign policy.”
Meanwhile, foreign Policy experts and analysts welcomed the statement of UN secretary-General and termed it a success of the prime minister’s diplomatic initiative.Lt-Gen (r) Talat Masood, talking to APP, said the statement was in a way endorsement of Pakistan’s approach. “I hope India will **w respect the UN secretary general’s offer of facilitating the dialogue.”
Prof Dr Pervez Iqbal Cheema said as the whole world was watching the continued grave human rights violations by India in Occupied Kashmir, Pakistan’s persistent positive role would impact the world conscience.
Dr Moonis Ahmar said Pakistan should make every effort, including lobbying at UN, approaching the likeminded countries and taking the OIC member countries on board to put pressure on India for the resolution Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions.
