Q: I am in first year of A-Levels and my subject combination is Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I am confused about quite a few things. First, I plan on going in the field of Bio but I certainly don’t want to be a doctor. I prefer Biotech**logy, Genetics and similar fields. Please tell me if it’s alright for me to apply in this field because I am really interested. Also, I need to k**w about the scope of these fields here and abroad. Please suggest me other fields too. (Aliya Naz - Lahore)

Ans: Biology with combination of Chemistry and Physics is an ideal subject mix that would lead you to any of the following degrees that are meant for 2020 and are k**wn as emerging subject areas: Cellular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Microbiology with Biochemistry and Biotech**logy. These are in order of priority which means Cellular Biology would be the best which will give you an opportunity to work alongside doctors in medical research, virology and immu**logy. Researchers are busy finding cure to existing viruses and diseases such as Bird flu, Swine flu, Dengue, Zika virus, Ebola, Cancer and much work has to be done so the opportunities are unlimited. If you are good at Biology go ahead and you will be successful.

Q2: I have completed MSc (Hons) Development Eco**mics. Please guide me should I apply for PhD **w or I should do some short computer course? Kindly suggest me which courses will be beneficial for me? (Ali Kazam - Sialkot)

Ans: I will advise you to find an internship in case that you are finding difficult to get a job. Sometimes internships without a salary help you to engage with the work environment and help to develop contacts that ultimately connect you to a job opportunity. An internship is also a good way to gain relevant experience. Internships are available in Pakistan and internationally for which you need to browse internet regularly.

Q3: I am an undergraduate student and I have completed A Levels (in World History, Law and Eco**mics). I want to do CSS and pursue a career in Foreign Services. What undergraduate programme should I pursue in Pakistan? (Hassan Mehmood- Karachi)

Ans: I would suggest you to go for an ho**rs degree in International Relations or Eco**mics with Development Studies and increase your reading towards books of general IQ, including newspapers and journals that are published inside Pakistan and internationally. I wish you success in your CSS.

Q4: Sir, I have passed Intermediate in (Pre-Engineering) with 81% marks. I wasted my one educational year as I failed to seek admission to UET Lahore. **w I am confused to take admission in BS Chemical Engineering or BS Petroleum Engineering from UET Lahore. Sir, please guide me which one is better and which field can lead me to my professional life as early as possible. (Hassan Nizam - Lahore)

Ans: If you are considering Pakistan for your future job opportunities then you should be looking at a degree in Chemical Engineering but if you have a plan to look at finding opportunities in the Middle East or EU you might be better of doing a degree in Petroleum Engineering which you can top-up doing an MBA in Oil & Gas that is **w available in several good universities abroad.
