ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid Thursday feared the proposed ‘container movement’ by the PTI chairman Imran Khan will harm the Kashmir freedom cause, as political instability in Pakistan will have its direct bearing on the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).

“Already, the sit-in in Islamabad by the PTI had delayed the CPEC for at least an year and **w the drive of roaming on a container will harm the Kashmir freedom struggle in terms of Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and legal support to it,” he asserted while speaking at a seminar: Current situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir and media’s role.

Without naming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said that his statement on Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan ran contrary to the facts and was also rejected out rightly while celebrating the Independence Day by people of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. He added the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had won freedom through sacrifices and on their own and then joined Pakistan.

The minister also said that the world had rejected Indian condition of its issuance of ** objection certificate (**C) for funding of Diamer-Bhasha dam by providing financial assistance without such condition. “Statements of exaggeration can’t dampen the Kashmir movement,” he said.

He recalled New Delhi had refused to apply the same principles on Held Kashmir on which the partition was won and emphasised Kashmiris were fighting for their right to self-determination, which was in line with the UN charter and world conventions. He strongly brushed aside Indian allegation of Pakistan’s interference in Held Kashmir and said the Kashmir struggle was on even before the creation of Pakistan against Dogra Raj. He contended that the PML-N government had addressed basic issues like terrorism and loadshedding first to forcefully plead the Kashmir cause at the global level.

“If Kashmir can be called integral part, it can be of Pakistan, **ne other can have the right to make this claim. Seventy years down the road, Pakistan has worked as advocate of Kashmir cause and this brought at times, both Islamabad and New Delhi to talk in arms and ammunition instead of dialogue,” he **ted.

About Kashmiris’ commitment to Pakistan, he said that the entire world saw the historic tur**ut of 68 percent in recently held polls in Azad Kashmir, while Kashmiris in Indian Held Kashmir never took part in polls. He said the Kashmir struggle would be strengthened and taken to its logical end but with sagacity and **t with emotions.

Earlier, the minister praised what he called the ongoing ideological Zarb-e-Azb of moderates against elements of hatred and terror, saying they will have to continue it even after the menace of terrorism was crushed physically.

As a result of landmark consultations by the prime minister, political parties and the military leadership, one Zarb-e-Azb was being waged by the security forces, while a**ther was being spearheaded by moderate Ulema and scholars by spreading the true message of love, peace and amity in the society and showing a true face of Islam to the world as well.

“Even if terrorists are smashed and their ammunition destroyed, the Zarb-e-Azb of ideology will have to be carried on, otherwise, there are such mind-sets, which have the potential to keep producing suicide bombers,” he warned.

The minister was expressing his views here at Nida-e-Millat Conference, organised by Pakistan Ulema Council, which was also attended by Islamabad-based diplomats, including Saudi Arabian Ambassador Abdullah Marzouk Al-Zahrani.

Pervaiz Rashid said there were two schools of thought: one had taken route of totting arms and spreading anarchy instead of talks, while the other believed in mutual respect, love and co-existence. He said those committing acts of terrorism had **thing to do with Islam and the Muslims.

He pointed out that in the United States today, the electoral war was being waged between two candidates: first charged that those involved in acts of terrorism and militancy were Muslims and hence those Muslims living in the United States should be driven out while the second candidate Hillary Clinton rallied her campaign by saying terrorism had ** links with Islam and its followers and this had made her popularity in a big way and her rival party was even reported to have considered replacing their presidential candidate.

Referring to recent terrorist attack in Madina, he said that only satanic elements could do it, having ** affinity with Islam and symbols, as the Muslims always yearned to visit Madina and get peace of mind and heart by praying at the divine mausoleum of the Holy Prophet (Peace be Upon Him).

The ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Palestine also spoke on the occasion and underlined the need for unity in the Ummah’s ranks.
