Senate chairman visits Quetta blast victims at AKH
KARACHI: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani on Friday said the state institutions are required to take the harshest decisions with consensus on national basis, otherwise the war against terrorism would linger on endlessly for years.
“It is high time to swallow a bitter pill for the cause of securing success in the ongoing war against terrorism,” said the Senate chairman on Friday as he visited the Aga Khan Hospital here (AKUH) to inquire about the health of injured persons of the Quetta bomb blast of August 8 being treated here.
He said the Quetta tragedy was in fact an attempt to cause ge**cide of civil society. He said the vacuum caused due to the loss of lives could **t be overcome in the next 30 to 35 years. He said the terrorists had committed a cowardly act to target a community that was a part of intelligentsia of the country.
“The war against terrorism has been imposed on us. This war was imposed on us owing to wrong decisions in the past and repercussions of such decisions are being faced till **w by the entire nation,” he said. Raza Rabbani said parliament had to fulfill a very major national obligation in the present situation.
He said parliament was required to adopt a new strategy for safety and security of the country and the nation, after taking into confidence all the institutions of the state. He said in case all institutions of the state had failed to adopt a strategy with national consensus in this regard, the nation would have to face more serious repercussions of the war against terrorists.
The Senate chairman expressed condolences over the Quetta incident and suggested that the national leadership was required to sit together and adopt a new plan in view of law and order in the country for making the war against terrorism result-oriented and for avoiding recurrence of such incidents in future.
