ISLAMABAD: The Pemra Complaints Council Sindh has recommended ban for 45 days on a private TV channel programme ‘Live with Dr Shahid Masood’, containing allegations against the chief justice of the Sindh High Court. The ban will commence from August 15.
The authority concerned has approved the recommendations of the Council. The meeting of the Pemra Complaints Council was held at the Regional ****** of the Pemra with Professor Inam Bari in the chair.
According to the recommendations of Pemra, Dr Shahid Masood has been banned to appear on the ARY TV channel as an anchor, as analyst, as a guest in any news bulletin, programme or the **rmal telecasts or in a recorded programme.
The council also asked the ARY to telecast an apology at the end of the ban period on September 29 in the same programme. The channel has also been directed to install within 30 days a delay system, form a review committee and activate it so that the code of conduct may be implemented. The council also directed the ******rs of the Pemra to inspect after 30 days any channel and report it.
In case of repetition of such error or **t implementing the orders, the council also recommended to cancel the licence of the channel under Section 30 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002, Pemra (Amendment) Act 2007. The Council, while hearing the complaint of reporter Abdul Jabbaar Nasir, a staff reporter of the Daily Dunya against Iqrarul Hasan, the host of Sar-e-Aam, a programme of ARY News, to submit an apology for using unnecessary, derogatory language against journalists.
Listening to the complaint against channel News One by senior advocate of the Supreme Court and counsel of former federal minister Dr Asim Husain, the council directed the channel to provide a recording of the programme in the next hearing.
