When an athlete's relationships are more important than success in her sport

Gone are the days when female athletes were openly demeaned or ridiculed in sports coverage. The change is welcome, but it hasn’t exactly liberated women from stereotypes that ack**wledge their gender first and their success second.
Cheryl Cooky k**ws this firsthand. For the past two decades, she has watched countless hours of sports news in the name of gender equality. She's seen women become the butt of a crude joke or the subject of a ***ual fantasy. Such blatant ***ism is rare **w, but progress is surprisingly slow.
