Opposition leader says they want to ask questions; if terrorists involved in major attacks arrested in Sindh, why **t in Balochistan, KP, Punjab?

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Shah on Wednesday demanded that those responsible for the security failure in Quetta be called to parliament and proposed that the Parliamentary Security Committee should review the security policy.

“Parliament should be given a briefing on the security situation as we did in our tenure when the establishment appeared before parliament and they **t only gave briefings but also answered questions,” he said speaking in the NA before the speech of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He slammed the counterterrorism policy saying that terrorist attacks in the country had gotten worse over the years despite the opposition’s cooperation with the government over the counter-terrorism measures. “The opposition has cooperated with the government on every step in this regard,” he claimed. “However, excuses have been made by blaming different banned outfits after every terrorist activity,” he added.

He said the opposition extended full cooperation to the government for national security and counterterrorism. He said, “The state of Pakistan belongs to all of us and all of us have to stand united for it.”

He said the government was responsible for running the state and parliament guides the government. “The opposition will always stand with the government to protect the state and will support all the actions taken by the government against terrorists,” he added.

The opposition leader said the government asked for making the Nacta functional and we said okay. “They asked for the National Action Plan. We said okay. They asked for military courts. We even cooperated on that. But despite all the cooperation, more ruthless terrorist attacks have happened,” he said.

He said the government never took serious steps on how to stop the terrorists. long would we shed tears for the in**cents killed during terrorist attacks? It was responsibility of the state to provide security to its citizens,” said an emotional Shah.

He said in the terrorist incident of Quetta, around 30 lawyers were martyred. “If our forces were busy in Zarb-e-Azb, why the parliament was **t taken into confidence. It should be told who are these terrorists and who were their facilitators,” he added.

The opposition leader said if the parliament becomes powerful then the government will also be strengthened and powerful. He said the terrorists who killed people in Jacobabad were arrested in 12 days; Safora attackers were also arrested and the killers of a senator were also arrested but why terrorist who make their terrorists activities in Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pukhtoonkhaw were **t arrested? “Is NAP only for one province?” he questioned.

He said mistakes are committed by others but the politicians are being defamed. “We made Pakistan and will save it,” headed. He termed terrorist activities as conspiracies adding Islam is a religion of peace. He said ban on violent outfits be strictly implemented. The opposition leader said the speeches which were delivered in the house in the last three days are regrettable. “Why these kind of speeches were being delivered?” he questioned.

He underscored the need for a national fight against terrorists as the government can**t single-handedly grapple with them. “All and sundry will have to jointly put up this fight against terrorists and the Opposition is with the government on this ground,” he added.

Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi lamented that the world was **t accepting Pakistan's stance on terrorism despite so many sacrifices. “We are being killed but the world was **t listening to us,” he added. He said condemnations were **t e**ugh because it was **t the first attack of this magnitude.

He regretted that the NAP was **t being implemented in letter and spirit as it was **t a government's priority. “If there are hurdles in the way of the implementation of the NAP, then the parliament should be taken into confidence to remove them,” he added.
