Shedding light on the pressing issue of climate change that is often swept under the rug, an organisation, Individualland Pakistan, organised a discussion with representatives of different political parties on Tuesday to highlight the cons of ig**ring drafted policies.

“Pakistan developed a national climate change policy in 2012 but never followed through. Only this year, cotton yield was affected badly due to changes in the climate,” said Kamila Khan from Awami National Party (ANP).

It was **ted that although Pakistan had ratified the COP 21 conference held at Paris, it was yet to fulfill the commitments.

Qamar Abbas Rizvi from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) opined that a decisive approach could perhaps save the lands from the aftermath of the impending change: “Climate change is occurring very rapidly and Pakistan remains one of the most vulnerable countries. However, by taking timely action, we can make mitigate its effects.”

According to the manifestoes of the political parties, Pakistan People’s Party has mentioned the word climate change (9) times, whereas Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz have mentioned the word climate change twice in their manifestoes. However, the provincial government has **t done e**ugh to tackle the issue, which claimed many lives in the provincial capital last year.

Nusrat Sehar from PML-F stated that the party would treat climate change as a priority issue and pointed out that despite PPP’s focus on the issue in its manifesto, the government failed to deliver during the tenure.
