ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday and put forward various development proposals for the Premier to accept.
This was the first time that the Chief Minister of Sindh was meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, after taking oath. PM Nawaz congratulated Murad Ali Shah on becoming the CM of Sindh and wished him well.
According to sources, both persons exchanged views on cooperation between the federal government and the provincial government. Among the issues that came under discussing during the meeting were arrears of electricity, NFC award and distribution of resources.
During the meeting, Murad Ali Shah also put forward his demand that the 3500 Megawatt (MW) of electricity which was being produced by coals in Sindh, should be supplied to the province for its use. Both personalities also exchanged views regarding the development projects.
Murad Ali Shah also put forth the proposal to include the Keti Bandar project as part of the China Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor.
Addressing a press conference after his meeting with the Prime Minister, Murad Ali Shah started off by thanking Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for placing confidence in him.
"I want to thank Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto for choosing me for this coveted post," he said. "I would also like to thank the people of Sindh, because they were the ones who elected me to serve them," he added. Murad also said that it was former PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto who had encouraged him to become involved in politics.
Discussing his meeting with Nawaz Sharif, Murad Ali Shah thanked the PM for listening to him and said that he had been assured of absolute cooperation.
"The Prime Minister assured me that he will speak to his federal ministers and regularly follow-up on the proposals that we discussed," he said. "He informed me that he had a very good working relationship with former Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah, to which I expressed the hope that the same would be the case with me."
Qaim Ali Shah said that he always spoke less with media personnel and those belonging to the press. However, he also said that he would rather **t speak much but let his actions do the job.
"My actions will speak for me," he said. "My primary concern is serving the people of Sindh," he added.
Murad Ali Shah also said that the province was faced with a lot of challenges and a lot of obstacles which he will try to solve.
With regard to the presence of Rangers in Karachi, he said that the paramilitary force had been granted stay in the province for 90 days.
"In Sindh, Rangers are present as per the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The issue of Rangers has been resolved amicably," he added.
