Police accused of torturing dacoity accused

TOBA TEK SINGH: A youth has blamed Sadr police for torturing him in custody.
Niaz Ahmad of Chak 286/JB, who was chained on a hospital bed, told reporters that he was arrested about a month ago in a dacoity on a poultry farm. “I was tortured severely and marks of blade cuts could also be seen on my body,” he alleged adding that salt was sprinkled on his injuries. He said he was shifted to the hospital when his condition started deteriorating on Sunday.
When contacted, DPO Rana Shahzad Akbar said Niaz was an accused in a robbery case. “According to my information, he tried to escape from police custody and he himself made blade cuts on his body,” he claimed. “However, I have ordered an inquiry into the allegations,” he said and added that strict action would be taken if any police official was found guilty. He said a five-member medical board would examine Niaz.
