Apple's neutering that port because it either thinks it's too ancient or needs to use that space to squeeze in other components — like a better speaker or slimmer design, or...or...IDK something that hasn't leaked out yet.
Wanna use your precious headphones and their di**saur-old 3.5mm ports? You're gonna need a dongle.
