States can't fight Airbnb, so they're trying to tax it

Most cities and states have accepted they won't be able to get rid of Airbnb — though **t for lack of trying. **w that the home-sharing site is here to stay, a few states are at least trying to make some money off of it.*

New Jersey is the latest state (http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2016/Homeowners-in-New-Jersey-who-offer-rooms-through-online-sites-such-as-Airbnb-would-have-to-pay-the-same-taxes-and-fees-as-hotels-and-motels-under-a-bill-that-s-being-introduced-in-the-As/id-1ff16134112943d68c3c81a44682bb25) to try to impose taxes on Airbnb, which is **t subject to the same taxes and fees as hotels and motels. In the Garden State, members of the assembly want to extend the 7 percent sales tax and 5 percent transient accommodation fee long in place at hotels to "short-term rentals rented through a transient space marketplace," aka Airbnb.
