Monetary policy on July 30

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will an**unce its bimonthly monetary policy statement on July 30, a statement said on Wednesday. Gover**r SBP Ashraf Mahmood Wathra will unveil the monetary policy for July and August at a news conference. Though the market is divided on policy rate direction, yet some are expecting a 25-basis points cut in the rate. The central bank reduced the policy rate by 25bps to 5.75 percent in its last monetary policy in May. However, the analysts said a logical move for the SBP monetary policy committee would be to maintain the interest rates on expected pick up in inflation.



World Bank team visits PITB

LAHORE: A World Bank delegation led by Anna C O Donmell and comprising Senior Development Specialist Jana El-Horr and Consultant Shan Rehman visited the Punjab IT Board (PITB) on Wednesday. PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif gave a comprehensive presentation on various projects, including e-Rozgar Programme. The meeting evaluated and discussed a pilot project for jobs and growth in the digital eco**my.

Dr Saif briefing on the progress and the future plans of the project said that the PITB would be setting up e-Rozgar centres in all 36 districts of Punjab that would provide vast opportunities of respectful and quick employment to the youth. He said Pakistan is the third largest country in the world in freelance entrepreneurs; therefore, the e-Rozgar programme will improve it further.



Kaymu, KVTC an**unce partnership

KARACHI: Kaymu.pk, Pakistan’s largest online marketplace and a part of Daraz Group, has joined hands with the Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) for the intellectually challenged, to provide an online platform to sell products made by their students, a statement said on Wednesday. The prevalence of disability in Pakistan, mental or physical, is estimated at 2.54 percent of the total population, or over five million people, it said. Under the banner of Jiddat, an initiative of KVTC, a wide range of women’s apparel and home craft, including cushions, tables, lamps, etc, are handmade by the intellectually challenged trainees who are imparted vocational training so that they can become independent and contributing members of the society.



Faysal Bank’s credit card launched

Meezan Bank ho**ured

KARACHI: Meezan Bank has been awarded as the winner of “Pakistani Islamic Bank of the Year 2016” by The Banker, a service from the Financial Times Ltd, London that provides eco**mic and financial intelligence for the world's financial sector, a statement said on Wednesday.

Meezan Bank has been recognised for its success in promoting Islamic banking in the region and maintaining a strong market position throughout the year 2015.

The bank has been acting as a joint financial adviser to the government of Pakistan for raising Shariah-compliant funds through Ijarah Sukuk and has played a key role in the launch of All Shares Islamic Index with the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE). The bank is also working on developing an Islamic benchmark rate, an Islamic long-term trade financing scheme and an Islamic discount window.



MPCL distributes production bonus

KARACHI: Mari Petroleum Limited (MPCL) has distributed production bonus, amounting to $600,000 in Sujawal and Badin districts for the development of health and education sectors. Sujawal block was granted to MPCL with 100 percent working interest and operatorship in June 2006. This block is spread across three districts, Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin. Subsequent to exploration activities performed, MPCL drilled the first exploratory well Sujawal X-1 in June 2010, making commercial hydrocarbon discovery. On the commencement of commercial production at Sujawal X-1, MPCL is obliged to pay $600,000 million to district governments Sujawal and Badin.
