MULTAN: Police have taken an elder sister of the late Qandeel Baloch in custody after she was made part of murder investigation following revelation of mobile phone data.

The Facebook star was strangled to death by her younger brother Waseem with the help of his cousin earlier this month for bringing shame to the family’s name by posting videos on social media that are **t deemed right morally by conservatives in the country.

Waseem was arrested a day after he fled the crime scene in the Multan house. He confessed to the killing and underwent a polygraph test in Lahore last week in which he stated that he had received a phone call from his elder brother residing in Saudi Arabia who criticised him for **t doing anything after their sister was involved in a controversy with a cleric. Qandeel’s cousin Haq Nawaz surrendered in Dera Ghazi Khan.

According to the key criminal, he held Qandeel’s hands while Nawaz strangled her to death after she was drugged that night in order to ensure little resistance. The victim’s parents also claimed that they were drugged that night by their son.

Meanwhile, Qandeel’s mother said her son strangled his sister after being taunted by his friends over her behaviour. Speaking to AFP from her home in the village of Shah Sadar Din, Baloch’s mother Anwar Wai wept as she recalled the shocking death at the hands of brother Wasim.

“He killed my daughter after being taunted by his friends. They would infuriate him and tell him she is bringing you disho**ur,” she said, surrounded by her husband as well as an adult son and daughter.

The desperately poor family, who live in a three-room house with mud for flooring, said they depended on Baloch financially and did **t k**w how they would cope without her. Baloch supported around a dozen relatives.

“She was an amazing daughter. I have ** words that do her justice, and she took care of us much more than our sons including financially,” she said, adding the family were being put up in a house that Baloch (real name Fauzia Azeem) had in Multan. “She would phone us four or five times a day. If she wasn’t able to call one day, she would tell us I’m sorry, I was working.”
