While much of the continental United States is baking in high heat and humidity (http://mashable.com/2016/07/21/corn-sweat-heat-wave-global-warming/), there is at least one spot on Earth dealing with far more intense heat.*

On Thursday, with a strong area of high pressure parked across the Middle East, high temperatures soared above 125 degrees Fahrenheit, or 51.6 degrees Celsius, in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and western Iran.*

In the community of Mitribah, Kuwait, the high temperature rocketed to a record-setting 129.2 degrees Fahrenheit, or 54 degrees Celsius (http://www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?lang=en&ind=40551&a**=2016&mes=7&day=22&hora=18&min=0&ndays=30).*
