ISLAMABAD: Amnesty International (AI) has urged Pakistan authorities to stop pardoning those involved in incidents of ho**ur-killing and violence against women.

In a statement issued here, the AI said killing of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch by her brother has highlighted the importance of the fact that crimes being committed by making the family ho**ur basis should be stopped.

AI hailed the Punjab government’s decision on making the state complainant in Qandeel murder case under which the family members will have ** legal right to pardon the accused in ho**ur killing cases.

AI ****** bearer Champa Patel said basic reforms are needed to eliminate the pardon factor in the incidents of ho**ur killing in Pakistan.AI, however, said that it was **t in favour of capital punishment. Thousands of women and girls from all walks of life are facing the threat of falling victim to such crimes all over the country.

According to the current annual report of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan as many as 1,100 women were killed in the name of ho**ur in Pakistan last year. The number of victims of ho**ur killing stood at 1,000 in 2014 and 869 in 2013.
