LONDON: Thousands of people, including men, women and children, protested outside the Indian High Commission in London against the killings and gross human rights violations in the Indian Held Kashmir.
The protest was organised by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), National Awami Party (NAP) and supported by various other Kashmir nationals and left-wing organisations, including Pakistani political parties.
The huge demonstration was organised after the latest spate of Indian brutalities in which over 50 Kashmiris have been martyred, more than 1,500 injured and over 300 fatally injured. The protesters said that India was deliberately killing the Kashmiri youth as part of its ge**cide campaign to eliminate the next generation of Kashmiris who had rejected Indian occupation at all levels, despite the worst kind of atrocities unleashed by Indians against them.
The protesters were carrying banners with slogans written against India and calling on the international community to take **tice of the Indian barbarism.
The protestors said that India wanted the Kashmiris to forget about over 100,000 who had been killed and maimed by the Indian occupation forces in the past. They said that thousands of Kashmiris were in illegal Indian detention right **w, hospitals were brimming with injured Kashmiris and patients were being dragged out of the hospitals and brutalised again.
“This is undoubtedly a shameful behaviour of India’s military in held Kashmir and the Indian state’s attitude towards Kashmiri genuine, internationally recognised and legitimate freedom struggle.
“The only option before India therefore is to ho**ur its commitments over Kashmir and allow the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to decide their country’s future political status,” said a joint petition that was presented to Navtej Sarna, High Commissioner of India to the UK.
The petition said: “As British Kashmiris we are exercising our democratic right of assembly and free speech by holding this demonstration. Through this peaceful demonstration we wish register our strong protest at the killing of peaceful demonstrators by Indian forces in Kashmir. Public demonstration is a fundamental right that we take for granted as UK citizens, which unfortunately your government denies to the people of Kashmir and their leaders to exercise.” The demonstration was attended by a large number of women and dozens of Kashmiris from the occupied Valley.
