Debates on gender equality, especially given our patriarchal **rms, are important. With misogyny embedded in society, taking a stand can shatter misconceptions or at minimum, provoke one to think. One actor who understands this is Ajay Devgn whose #MyGirlMyStrength hashtag is trending on Twitter.
The Drishyam actor walked hand-in-hand with his daughter Nysa on the red carpet of London Indian Film Festival (LIFF). He then posted a red carpet picture with his daughter on Twitter and wrote, “Empowering the girl child. Walking the red carpet with my power besides me. She’s my true strength #MyGirlMyStrength.”
The idea initiated by Devgn has gained traction as scores of fathers have also posted pictures with their daughters and have echoed the actor’s sentiments.
Coincidentally, the poster of Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Dangal, which came out two days after Devgan’s post, is also dealing with similar themes. Highlighting the simple fact that daughters are just as important as sons, the poster features Khan with his on-screen daughters, whom he trains in wrestling.
Responding to a tweet that said Devgan was promoting Dangal, Devgan said, “I’m all for girl power and if Dangal has that theme then I’m promoting Dangal as well.”
