In 1968, the Chilean-born photographer Camilo José Vergara moved to New York City after earning a degree in sociology at **tre Dame
He spent his spare time*while enrolled in a master’s program at Columbia*wandering impoverished uptown neighborhoods with his camera, capturing beautiful street photos (http://mashable.com/2015/12/09/new-york-1970s-vergaras/#ARHQUN8xqkqo) of vibrant residents and crumbling spaces in then decaying neighborhoods of the city.
