ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Thursday said the Independence Day this year would be celebrated with more vigour and enthusiasm throughout the country.
He was chairing a meeting along with Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq here at the Ministry of Information regarding the Independence Day celebrations.The information minister said through the celebrations homage would be paid to the martyrs of Pakistan Movement and soldiers who sacrificed their lives while defending the country besides highlighting the culture and heritage of all regions of Pakistan.
The minister directed all the departments of the Ministry of Information to work together with other ministries and the Pakistan Railways to highlight ideological base of the country through the Independence Day celebrations.
Saad Rafiq informed the meeting that Pakistan Railways had made preparations to run the ‘Azadi Train’ with more improvement this year in connection with Independence Day celebrations. It would run through all the provinces and regions of the country to highlight various aspects of the ‘Freedom Movement.’ He said the objective to run the ‘Azadi Train’ was to inform the younger generation about the struggle for Pakistan, highlight the sacrifices of armed forces and introduce different cultures of the country to them.
The meeting was informed that there would also be countrywide sports activities, national Mushaira (poetry recitation), debating contests and national songs competitions across schools, colleges and universities photo exhibitions and food bazaars at major railways stations would also be held.
The meeting decided to constitute an inter-ministerial special coordination committee for integrated implementation of the Azadi Train plan at the operational level.The meeting was attended by Secretary IB&NH Syed Imran Gardezi, Secretary Cabinet Nadeem Hassan Asif, Secretary Railways Ms Perveen Agha, media chiefs and senior officials of the Pakistan Railways and Cabinet Division.
