Asserts unnecessary criticism and false
allegations against Pakistan’s serious efforts for
peace in region hinder mutual interests
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said Pakistan had sacrificed a lot in the war against terror but it’s regrettable that the US parliamentarians had ** realisation how much it had lost to curb this menace.
Talking to the US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale here at the interior ministry, Nisar expressed deep concern over the statements of some US Congress members and other officials about Pakistan’s role in the fight against terrorism.
The minister said such statements cause a strong reaction against the US in Pakistan.Nisar said unnecessary criticism and practice of leveling false allegations against Pakistan’s serious efforts for peace in the region create hurdles in attaining mutual interests. The minister said the achievements made in the war on terror reflected Pakistan’s sincere efforts for regional security.
He said the US government had ack**wledged the achievements made during the ongoing war against terrorism, especially Zarb-e-Azb, for lasting peace in the region.The US ambassador lauded the steps taken by the Ministry of Interior and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in security and immigration areas.
Meanwhile, during a high-powered meeting with the visiting Chinese Minister for State Security Geng Huichang here, Nisar said Pakistan’s expanded cooperation with China in the field of counterterrorism, security, intelligence sharing and trade would arguably be a defining partnership for it in the 21st Century.
The security delegation, headed by Geng Huichang, also comprised officials from counterterrorism, technical and intelligence divisions.The meeting covered a broader scope of discussion for increased coordination between the security establishments of the two countries in intelligence sharing, counterterrorism coordination, and security of the China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor (CPEC).
The interior minister maintained that “secure and successful completion of CPEC would add new dimensions to our friendship cementing our eco**mic as well as strategic bond.” He maintained that the CEPC would also help Pakistan and China expand theirtrade footprint in the region and beyond.
“CPEC is **t only the flagship project between the two countries, but also focuses on strategic depth in Pak-China relationship,” Nisar was quoted as saying by the spokesperson for the ministry.
The interior minister said both sides must be cautious about regional and global powers opposing the CPEC project for their own interests.The interior minister reiterated that Pakistan was committed at all levels to thwart all conspiracies against the CPEC.
Nisar said the two sides should exponentially enhance intelligence sharing precisely in the fight against terrorism, extremism and countering violence.He remarked that Pakistan would continue its fight against all terrorist groups creating disturbances and generating violence on its land.
He said Pakistan was committed to **t allowing any group to use its territory for violence abroad.Commenting on the ongoing fight against terrorists, the interior minister said the Operation Zarb-e-Azb had started reaping its benefits.
Regarding the security of Chinese citizens working across Pakistan on different development projects, including CPEC, the interior minister pointed out that a Special Security Division was already working under the Pakistan Army to secure the lives of Chinese workers.
Geng Huichang appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, especially the gains achieved under the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.The two sides agreed to strengthen information and intelligence sharing through extended technical cooperation and coordination.
