Urges UN to get its resolutions on Kashmir implemented

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said its efforts in the war against terrorism can**t be questioned.

In his weekly briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign ****** Spokesman Nafees Zakaria termed the statement of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani unhelpful for peace and stability in Afghanistan and said it will benefit those who do **t want peace in that country. He said the Afghan leadership should refrain from issuing such kinds of statements.

The spokesman said Pakistan was taking comprehensive steps against terrorism and extremism, which were ack**wledged by the international community. He pointed out that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb has put the terrorism on backfoot. He said Pakistan is also extending cooperation to the neighbouring countries against terrorism. He said there was a need for cooperation and harmony among both the countries for peace in Afghanistan and the region.To a question, Nafees Zakaria said Pakistan and the United States have shared goals on defeating terrorism and they are cooperating with each other to eliminate this menace.

He urged the United Nations to get its resolutions on Kashmir implemented. He said it was the UN responsibility to resolve international disputes, including that of Kashmir. The spokesman said Pakistan wanted to resolve all the outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through talks with India as war is **t a solution to any issue. He asked the international community to pressurise India to hold talks with Pakistan for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The spokesman said the Kashmiri people can**t be deprived of their right to self-determination for which they have been rendering numerous sacrifices for long.Nafees Zakaria said Pakistan was effectively taking up the issue with the international community, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He said ambassadors of the EU countries and P-5 countries were briefed by the foreign secretary on recent atrocities being perpetrated by the Indian forces and human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir. He said Pakistani envoys abroad are also briefing the respective governments and human rights organisations on the issue.

To a**ther question, the spokesman said Pakistan has expressed concern over how the culprits involved in the Samjhauta Express incident were exonerated. “We have asked India to share investigations into the incident with Pakistan.” The spokesman said the Saarc Summit will be held in **vember in Islamabad and preparations for it are underway.
