ISLAMABAD: Adiala Jail officials Wednesday submitted jail report before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the imprisonment sentence to a former joint secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Aftabul Islam Raja who is behind the bars for his involvement in Haj corruption case.
As per this report Raja completed his sentence on July 9, 2016, but he is undergoing sentence due to **n-payment of Rs148.397 million fine. In this report it was also said that the convict underwent a sentence of 3 years 10 months and 22 days while he was given a remission of two years in his sentence.
Prosecution i.e. the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sought time from the court to analyse and argue in this case. The IHC bench then adjourned hearing in the matter.
IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Mohammad Anwar Khan Kasi was hearing the appeal against sentence of Aftabul Islam Raja where the petitioner had challenged the sentence awarded to him by the court of special judge central on June 3, 2016.
Aftabul Islam was arrested for his role in Hajj corruption on December 22, 2010. Raja was a co-accused with former director general (DG) Haj, Rao Shakeel and former federal minister for religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi.
