PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to lodge a formal protest to the federal government over the delay in formulation of the 9th National Finance Commission (NFC) and usurpation of rights of the province.
According to a handout, it has also been decided to summon an All Parties Conference (APC) on the issue and to develop close liaison with other provinces including Sindh and Balochistan to take stock of the situation and adopt a consensus strategy.
A number of decisions were also made to ensure implementation on an**uncement and targets of the provincial budget, including holding meetings on quarterly progress review under the finance minister and monthly reviews under the secretary finance.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Muzaffar Said, advocate, chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat where matters including timely achievement of the development goals an**unced in the budget, progress on the new NFC Award and development strategy of the provincial government were discussed while a number of decisions and recommendations were also made. The meeting, besides Secretary Finance Ali Raza Bhutta and other high-ups, was also attended by former senior bureaucrats associated with the Finance Department.
It was decided that the Centre would be approached by provincial bureaucracy on a weekly basis and ministerial level on monthly basis while the chief minister would be kept abreast with the progress.
